One of our favorite Key West couples are our friends Arlo & Ashley and this weekend, after thirteen years of courtship, they finally made the move and celebrated a much anticipated and very exciting wedding ceremony. It wasn’t so much of a wedding as a Key West event as both of them are much beloved long time residents of Key West. Arlo actually grew up here and the anticipation among friends and family was high.

The ceremony was held at the center of the White Street pier with chairs set up atop the beautiful Compass Rose that adorns the pier. It was a large gathering as the pair is hugely popular and had a ton of friends and family both locally and from out of town. They are such cool and interesting people and so they seem to draw a really eclectic and fun group of friends and family. The wedding was held at the center of the White Street Pier, atop the huge Compass Rose that is painted in the center of the end of the pier. It is a place that held special meaning to the couple and to many Key Westers. The weather seemed at first somewhat threatening and a quick glance at the radar made it seem implausible that they would actually even get the ceremony started before huge bands of rain arrived.

Hundreds of guests, friends and family showed up dressed in their Key West formal attire for the special occasion and miraculously, not only did it not rain, in one of the most amazing acts of Karma that I have seen in ages, the sun broke through just as the vows were being exchanged and the wedding took on a magical feel. An amazing Key West sunset followed and somehow, the rain stayed away all night- through the wonderful rooftop reception party at what has been described as Key West’s only Penthouse apartment.

Key West icon David Wolkowsky had offered up the use of his fantastic and eclectic apartment that is located on the roof of the building that houses Fast Buck Freddies and Margaritaville. It is an amazing and unique location and the party was just as amazing and wonderful and fun as the place it was held. It was a spectacular, almost legendary party. One that I won’t soon forget; as we turned that place into a swinging dance party that it probably hasn’t seen in quite a while, though I am sure the place has had some moments in its day- it is just too cool not to have.

The party was packed with friends, food and libations and was easily one of the best and most fun parties that I have been to in some time. It was so cool to hang out with friends in one of the coolest secret locations in Key West and enjoy a kicking party under what turned out to be just about perfect weather. Apparently it did eventually rain, at some point after 4 AM when I had long since headed home, but the party was still raging on in full swing.

I want to congratulate Arlo & Ashley again and thank them for including us (well me since Kathy was in the Grand Canyon) in their amazing wedding celebration. It was a splendid occasion and the continuation of one of our favorite pairings. Much luck and love as you guys move forward.
