Preschool Happy Hour
Friday evening happy hour in Key West, the place to be each week is at the Bottlecap Lounge on Simonton Street. Every Friday evening the wonderful, funky little bar & lounge hosts a special happy hour event to raise money for one of the myriad of charities that are based in Key West and the Florida Keys. The owners turn the bar over to an organization and all the tips from the evening go directly to the charity. The charity can also raise funds in other ways as well and you almost always find a great crowd of locals on hand to support their favorite organization.
Last Friday, the benefit was held for the Key West Preschool Co-op where Kathy teaches. A nice crowd showed up to lend their support, led of course by the current parents and staff at the school, but also including many alumni parents, friends and others who all helped chip in to make the event a success.

In addition to raising much needed funding, the event offers parents at the school a chance to socialize in a non-educational setting, which they seem to enjoy. Of course the main reason for the event is to help the school raise a little cash. To that end the event included a very successful silent auction and a “spin and win” game where patrons could spin a wheel and potentially win a prize for a donation.
Kathy and I were pleased to see a number of our friends show up to support the school, including the Island Foxes group with who Kathy does her boot camp workouts. It was a casual and fun evening and in spite of a slightly smaller turnout than last year, the amount of money raised exceeded last year. Thanks to all who came out to support the school and to all the parents who helped organize and work at the event.

If you missed the Happy Hour fundraiser, you have another opportunity to help the school out when they host a community yard sale in the parking lot at the school which is located at 2610 Flagler, this Saturday, October 1st from 8AM to 1 PM.
Christa & Marky
This week also found us attending a birthday celebration for our friend Christa who is also known as the fabulous Tatah Du Jour, co-founder, director and star performer of the amazing Key West Burlesque. She and her partner Marky hosted a birthday shindig at Point5 the cool upstairs bar & lounge above NineOneFive restaurant.

The party also served as something of a send off as Tatah & Marky (and a few other KW Burlesque performers) are off this week to attend the New York Burlesque Festival in New York City. In addition to performing during the festival and representing Key West, Tatah has been nominated for an award as “Trendsetter of the Year” at the annual Burlesque Awards. This is a well deserved and wonderful achievement and one that anyone who has attended a KW Burlesque performance will readily understand. Good Luck this week Tatah, and Happy Birthday!!
