Easter Week
The Easter holiday is always somewhat special to Kathy & I, not that we celebrate the religious aspects of the holiday (or any other day for that matter), but rather as a time to celebrate friends and family. Kathy’s mother Mary would always host a wonderful Easter gathering at the beach at Ft. Taylor prior to her passing and we have always tried to honor the spirit of that gathering by trying to spend the holiday with friends and honoring family on Easter Sunday.

This year, as we have tried to do for the past few years, Kathy organized a large group of friends to meet for the fabulous brunch that is held at the Westin Resort restaurant, Bistro 245. The restaurant, which hosts a wonderful brunch every Sunday- does an extra special job of it on major holidays such as Easter. They put up a huge tent on the Sunset Pier overlooking Key West Harbor and put out all sorts of special food.
We had a huge table reserved for us with ten friends and ourselves all joining to share the day, the incredible bonanza of food and of course the endless champagne and mimosas that come along with the brunch. It was a perfect day, with a perfect setting and beautiful weather as well.

The food is so good and so plentiful that we spent the rest of the day lounging around the house like stuffed pigs, but it was well worth it. Once again Kathy provided each guest with some Easter goodies including an egg with a lottery ticket in it, just in case one of us got very lucky. We spent a wonderful afternoon at the brunch, and of course our group was one of the last to depart as they started packing up tables and chairs around us, even while continuing to keep the champagne and mimosas flowing.

Earlier in the week, we had attended another fun event revolving around food, another fun and delicious beer dinner at two cents restaurant. This one featured beer from Bells Brewery in Michigan paired with delightful food selections courtesy of Chef Chris Otten at Two Cents. Just like the Cigar City beer dinner, each course of food was paired with a selection of beer from the Michigan based brewery that would highlight the food.

We do not consider ourselves foodies, but we enjoy good food and craft beer and we really enjoy sharing these with friends. We are fortunate to have opportunities in Key West to enjoy such great dining opportunities. We highly recommend both the brunch at the Westin, (which has easily surpassed our previous brunch favorite The Casa Marina) and Two Cents restaurant for dining anytime. If you live in or visit Key West, you owe it to yourself to check these places out.
