Kathy & I have a tremendous amount to be thankful for and we celebrated Thanksgiving this year by joining friends at two celebrations of thanks, friendship and community. We actually joined in two celebrations, one in the morning at the home of our friends Nadene & Trevor and a second gathering at the home of another good friend Bill Rowan, later in the afternoon.

Nadene & Kermit



Nadene & Trevor hosted a traditional Thanksgiving brunch to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on television. We had a great time relaxing with friends, meeting new ones and watching the parade. Perhaps the most enjoyable part was watching Nadene’s reaction to the appearance of her favorite parade float, the inflatable Kermit the Frog. The sight of Kermit brought her back to her childhood as she munched her traditional chips and dip and allowed us to share in one of her favorite holiday moments.

Key West is inhabited by an amazing collection of interesting, funny, talented and sometimes outright wacky people. We are fortunate to count many of these people among our friends and it really is one of the true joys of living in a place where the sense of community is so strong. Examples of pretty much all of these people could be found at our second Thanksgiving stop at the home of Bill Rowan.

The annual Rowan Thanksgiving gathering exemplifies everything I love about living in Key West. The Rowan home is opened up to a wonderful cross section of our community each year. The feeling of a huge extended family permeates the gathering which brings together seemingly disparate segments of the island into a wonderful whole that feels like family to all involved.

The plethora of food options is as diverse as the people in attendance, but no one goes hungry. I think there may have been four or five Turkeys prepared including a yummy deep fried version.

The celebration lasts late into the evening and featured a wonderful selection of entertainment from the guests themselves. Seeing that Bill and his sons are well connected with the most creative and interesting people from the arts community it is understandable that the entertainment was top notch.



We want to thank Nadene, Trevor & Bill as well as all our friends who helped make our Thanksgiving one that was wonderfully enjoyable and was itself worth being thankful.
