Fun House

Of all the Fantasy Fest parties and events that I have attended this week, it will be over twenty-five by the time the week concludes, perhaps my favorite hidden gem is a brand new party brought to you by the same talented and creative folks who created the Zombie Bike Ride and Tutu party called the Fun House. The newly minted Thursday night party at the same 9,000 square foot complex that hosted the Tutu party on Tuesday, namely the General Horseplay, 22 & Company, Teasers and Club A, was another masterpiece that hopefully will catch on and grow like the Tutu party did before it.

Thursday evening is something of a tough night, especially to draw out locals who are gearing up for the weekend and often take that night off. Visitors flock to the street in front of Sloppy Joe’s for the traditional Toga party which for years had been the major bar party of that night. In recent years, the Porch, which just recently closed has hosted a number of more subdued, but awesome parties on Thursday night including the popular Nerd party and a 1920s themed party previous to that.

With the Porch now closed, the Fun House was designed to take the place of those parties and improve on them at the same time, utilizing the same creative team that worked on the Tutu party to turn the complex into a huge circus fun house atmosphere. In my mind they achieved it on a grand scale. It was magical.

I am pretty sure that they were disappointed with the turnout, as there were certainly not as many people as the Tutu party, but I think those that did show up were treated to an amazing party. With live music in the General Horesplay courtyard in the form of the amazing Patrick and the Swayzees and a dance party upstairs at Club A with some of the best DJs in Key West and a sexy atmosphere with strippers back at Teaser’s it offered something for everyone.

It wasn’t just the decorations that transformed the place into a circus-like atmosphere, but actual performers were brought in to add to the fun from the famous Rainbow Circus. They even had popcorn and cotton candy available just like the real thing and it was those kind of little details that separate the average parties from the incredible ones like this one.

.
While there were not a ton of locals on hand, the ones that were there went all out following the circus theme with amazing costumes that just added to the remarkable feel that the event had. Everyone responsible for this amazing party needs to be congratulated and encouraged to bring it back next year. I know it may not have been as successful as they might have wanted, but it has a ton of potential and hopefully it will be back on the Fantasy Fest calendar next year.

I did not stay out all that late on Thursday, even though it was a ton of fun and a lot of my friends were out enjoying the festivities. Friday and Saturday are the really long days and the culmination of the ten day craziness that is Fantasy Fest and I needed to be as well rested as possible. Kathy had been at home on Thursday evening busily working on our costumes for the Masquerade March as well and I wanted to get home to see her and the magic that she was as always, creating.
