Happy Easter

The Easter Holiday marks the end of the season in Key West as things begin to quiet and calm significantly as snow birds make their annual trek North and the influx of tourists slows to merely annoying. It means the number of fundraisers; meetings and events also begin to dwindle. The past few weeks have seen a flurry of such things as many local organizations try to squeeze the last little bit out of those who are here in Key West. Our calendar has been full of all sorts of art openings, plays, films and assorted fundraising events.



Both Kathy & I helped with events for our employers. Kathy became the Easter Bunny for the Key West Preschool Co-op’s annual Spring Fair carnival for children recently and followed that up with an appearance at the Sheriff’s Department Easter party held at the Animal Farm located at the jail on Stock Island. I helped organize an event to premiere a new DVD, “History Revealed: RPM Nautical Foundation Operations 2005-200” at the Tropic Cinema. Both events proved successful.

In addition to our own events, we found time to attend a bunch of others. Including a wonderful photo exhibit from our friends Gail Lima, Carol Tedesco and Amy Culver, a fundraising party to raise money to send our friend Cricket Desmarais to Cuba to help her research the novel she is working on, “One Hundred Fires” and the premiere of a wonderful film produced by our friends Tom Jackson and Joel Biddle at the Tropic called “Waters of Wonder” about the beauty of coral reef ecosystems. The Friends of the Library Monday night lecture series is winding down as well, the final reading is this evening with famed pollster Lou Harris speaking on the latest polling numbers for Presidential candidates.

We also managed to find time to squeeze in a wonderful dinner at the home of our friends Martha & David, who just happen to live in the house that Kathy’s father built on Ashe Street. It really is a small world. It was Jim’s first time back in the house since selling it six years ago.
The Easter weekend was busy as well as we had a variety pack of events. From the first birthday party of our friend’s David & Fiona’s daughter Tallulah to a wonderful brunch at the Westin with a large group of friends to last evening’s annual shindig at the home of our friends KT & Jake, we kept a busy and fun-filled week-end.
