Magical Kingdom

Magical Kingdom

On our second day of this Disney trip, we started the day off at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and then topped it off with a visit to the Magic Kingdom so that we could watch the end of the evening fireworks spectacular that they host. Even though it seems like we were just at both of these places, in December, it still had a different feel as it was at once more crowded, yet more relaxed for us as we did not have any pressure to see and do everything.

Disney World is currently celebrating its 5oth anniversary of opening in Florida, and as if they need additional reasons to celebrate, they are spending this year hosting special events and activities to mark the occasion. Each park has its own special decorations and celebrations that are unique to the 50th anniversary.

The most extravagant is the Disney Enchantment nightly fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom. This is probably the most popular show at Disney and features an amazing array of colorful fireworks, a light show, famous Disney music and scenes from famous Disney shows cast upon the side of Cinderella’s castle throughout the show.

It really is a spectacular show and one that will impress even the most jaded Disney visitor. Magic Kingdom’s new nighttime show is objectively incredible. It features advanced immersive projection mapping that now encompasses all of Main Street. Recently introduced characters like Ian from Onward, Joe Gardner from “Soul” Luca and Alberto from “Luca”and Raya from “Raya and the Last Dragon” make projected appearances on the castle. For the first time, new lighting illuminates the trees and surrounding areas of the castle hub. “Black Panther’s”Angela Bassett narrates the show along with epic fireworks and an all new soundtrack from 7-time Grammy award winning songwriter, Philip Lawrence.

Perhaps most importantly, we were relieved to see Tinker Bell fly from the top of Cinderella Castle once again. Disney Enchantment still includes classic Disney tunes we all know and love, as well as new masterpieces like “Into the Unknown” from “Frozen 2”and iconic original song “You are the Magic”. What’s not to love?

Once again, we did rides and attractions that we had skipped on our last visit, with a few repeats thrown in like the Star Wars rides at Hollywood Studios and Space Mountain. It was a fun and leisurely day again at Disney and Kathy and I were mostly exhausted when we trudged back to our hotel at the end of the evening, having spent a very full day at the parks.

Who knows if we will utilize our annual passes again before the end of this year, but it is good to know that we have gotten good use and good value out of them already.
