The Best Things in Life Aren’t Things
There is really nothing more important in life than family
and friends. Spending time with the people you love and who know and love you
is really one of the most important aspects of our lives and this is why Kathy
and I treasure the opportunity to spend time in places like Marshfield, where
she was born and raised and still has so many important people in her life
nearby.
This visit wasn’t so much a vacation as a celebration of
what is truly important and as such we were thrilled to attend and host
gatherings while we were there that brought together so many of the important
people in our lives. Almost right away upon arrival, we were keeping busy with
wonderful people and fun events that celebrated memories while at the same time
making new ones.
One of our first stops was at a family get together at
Kathy’s Aunt Kathy and Uncle Al’s home in nearby Scituate. There we got to meet
for the first time the newest addition to the family, ten month old Pete, who
is the son of Kathy’s cousin Alex and his wife Alison. I have never been much
of a baby person, I mean they are cute and all, but I have always found them
somewhat messy, sticky and often smelly. But this baby, along wth our friends
Dakota and Andy’s baby Sloane, have pretty much made me do a 180 degree turn
around.
Pete is adorable, smiley, fun and good natured, oozing with
personality and just adorable. Kathy and I were pretty much smitten right off
the bat. It was such a wonderful afternoon getting to spend time with Alex,
Alison and Pete along with Chris, Jim and our wonderful hosts Kathy and Al.
Even Jack was able to attend and made new friends with Alex and Alison’s cute
little dogs, Nacho and Nina.
Jack is loving vacationing in Massachusetts, his freedom to
roam about the beautiful wooded surroundings of Kathy’s father’s house was
something completely new to him as were the myriad of smells of all the
woodland creatures that call the area home. It is just such a beautiful and
enjoyable setting. It is also the perfect setting for an event that we host
almost every time we visit, a huge lobster feast for many of Kathy’s family and
friends.
This year we had to order 23 lobsters to account for all the
people that were coming and sadly our favorite place to get fresh seafood, the
Brant Rock Seafood Market closed down permanently since we were here last year.
Thankfully the local grocery store, Roche Brothers, prepares lobsters so we
went that route and I went over to pick up the lobsters just as people started
arriving.
There was an abundance of delicious food and drinks as the feast
was done in a potluck fashion and people seemed to go all out in adding to the
meal, but the best part about it was the amount of family and friends who were
able to participate. The crowd was so big that it made it tough to really get
around and spend quality time with everyone who was there, but we had a
fantastic evening and want to thank everyone who was on hand to celebrate with
us.
